奄美の夏は楽しい
写真は今日から始まった新メニューの「Honey Bacon Waffle」（ハニーベーコンワッフル）です。
3種のベリーの手作りソース、手作りホイップバター、もちろん手作り生地から
出来ています。生地を軽やかにそして美味しく感じられるようにするのに苦心しましたが、
まずは納得できる一皿になりました。これからどう進化させていくか楽しみです。
さて、昨日の休みの日はシュノーケルをしに行きました。そこは誰も泳ぐ人のいない海ですが、
私のお気に入りの場所で、海が穏やかだったので少し沖合に潜りました。そこは岩と岩の間が深い
窪みになっている水深20メートル位の地形で大き目の底の窪みに結構な数の魚影が行き交うのが
見られました。上から眺めていると、その中にかなり大きな魚が2匹見えたので何だろうと目を
凝らすとサメでした。大きさは1メートル20㎝ほどでした。窪みから上がってきたサメは僕の
3メートルほど横を何度も通り過ぎ、その間間近でサメをじっくり観察することが出来ました。
やはりこれくらいのサイズの海の生き物になると胴体も太く迫力が違います。
海とはこんなすごい生き物が住んでいるところなんだなあと改めて思わされます。
久しぶりにエキサイティングなシュノーケリングになりました。
シュノーケルの良いところは非日常を味わえることです。
そんな海が家のすぐ近くにあるという環境が奄美が移住者を引き寄せている理由の一つ
なのかなと思いました。当店の店名「al mar」はスペイン語で海へという意味です。
そこには、海に行くと心がリセットされ元気になれる、だから海へ向かおう！という想い
が込められています。今日の海遊びを通じて、改めてこの店名「al mar」の大切さを
感じました。

It features a homemade three-berry sauce, homemade whipped butter, and—of course—batter made from scratch. I put a lot of effort into getting the texture just right so the waffle would taste light and delicious, and I’m really happy with the result. I’m excited to see how the dish evolves from here.
On my day off yesterday, I went snorkeling. It was a spot where there were no other swimmers—one of my personal favorites—and since the water was calm, I ventured out a bit further from the shore to dive. The seabed there featured deep crevices between the rocks, reaching depths of about 20 meters; I could see schools of fish darting through the larger hollows at the bottom. While looking down from the surface, I spotted two rather large fish. I squinted to get a better look and realized they were sharks—about 1.2 meters long. One of them swam up from the depths and passed right by me—only about three meters away—several times, giving me a chance to observe it closely. A sea creature of that size has a thick, powerful body that makes a real impression. It reminded me all over again that the ocean is home to such magnificent creatures. It was a truly exciting snorkeling session.
The best part of snorkeling is the chance to experience something out of the ordinary.
I think having an ocean like that right on one’s doorstep is one of the reasons Amami attracts so many people to move here. Our shop’s name, “al mar,” means “to the sea” in Spanish.
It embodies the idea that going to the ocean resets your mind and revitalizes your spirit—so let’s head to the sea! My time in the water today made me appreciate the significance of the name “al mar” all over again.
